Mexican Tomatillo and Avocado Sauce
super easy
Looking for a fresh and unique side dish which goes with any Mexican dish? Here’s my recipe for Mexican Tomatillo and Avocado Salsa Verde.
Should I Use Fresh Or Canned Tomatillos?
This is really a matter of personal taste. Fresh tomatillo has a sharper and zestier flavour, whereas the canned varieties tend to be slightly saltier. That said, it’s easy to adjust either to your taste, you can add lime juice to the canned tomatillos to make them sharper, and you can add salt to the fresh ones.
A lot of people can find it hard to get fresh tomatillo from their local grocery store, while most grocery stores will have the canned variety. Mexican grocers will have a wide variety of different canned tomatillos (La Costena and Carey are my favourite brand).
What Can I Eat Mexican Salsa Verde With?
Almost anything! Like guacamole, or regular salsa, tomatillo, and avocado salsa verde is a very versatile dish that pairs well with a lot of other Mexican cuisine like nachos, tacos, fajitas, rice, beans, chicken, and beef. It also works well as a dipping sauce for crisps or fries.
