Ingredients:

For the meatballs:

– 1 pound (450g) ground beef

– 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

– 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

– 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

– 1 small onion, finely chopped

– 2 garlic cloves, minced

– 1 large egg

– 1 teaspoon salt

– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the tomato sauce:

– 1 can (14 ounces/400g) crushed tomatoes

– 1 can (6 ounces/170g) tomato paste

– 1/2 cup water

– 2 tablespoons olive oil

– 1 small onion, finely chopped

– 2 garlic cloves, minced

– 1 teaspoon dried oregano

– 1 teaspoon dried basil

– 1/2 teaspoon sugar

– Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, onion, garlic, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

2. Shape the mixture into meatballs, approximately 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. You should be able to make about 20 meatballs. Set them aside on a plate or baking sheet.

3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onions and minced garlic, sautéing until they become translucent and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.

4. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, water, dried oregano, dried basil, sugar, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir well to combine the ingredients and bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.

5. Carefully add the meatballs to the simmering sauce, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover the skillet with a lid and let the meatballs cook in the sauce for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through and tender. Occasionally stir gently to prevent sticking.

6. Once the meatballs are cooked, remove the skillet from the heat. Let them rest for a few minutes before serving, allowing the flavours to meld together.

7. Serve the Classic Beef Meatballs in Tomato Sauce over your favourite pasta, such as spaghetti or linguine. Garnish with additional Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley, if desired.

Now, all that’s left is to gather your loved ones around the table and enjoy this delicious and comforting meal together. Bon appétit!
